I posted about a week ago asking for feedback on what may be going on (diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, gas) and ended up going to the emergency room just hours later. Turns out I had an intestinal blockage and I’ve been in the hospital ever since (last Sunday - so just over a week). They did an X-ray that first day, which confirmed there was an obstruction, and put the NG tube in same day. (I hate the NG tube!!) They did a Small Bowel Series to get a closer look at the blockage. They believe it to be scar tissue (adhesion) or it could be a kink. After a few days with the NG tube and daily X-rays, the doctor advised that the inflammation had gone down and obstruction had cleared. They had started me on nutrients through IV (PPN) in addition to saline a day or so earlier (since I hadn’t eaten in ~2 weeks) but moved me to clear liquids diet that day (and removed NG tube). Clear liquids went well so they moved me to Full Liquids for a couple meals and then on to Solid Foods. I had 3 meals of solid foods on Friday and it felt so great! That night, though, my system started getting rumbly and I had quite a bit of liquid output. I was supposed to go home that next day (yesterday). They ordered an X-ray that morning and it showed the obstruction was back. NG tube went back in and surgery has been scheduled for tomorrow. Surgeon believes it’s scar tissue he can just go in and cut out. He’ll be making an incision along my long abdominal scar from my prior surgeries and hopefully won’t find any more issues in there that need to be addressed. Just wanted to see if anyone has had a similar experience and what I should expect and be prepared for. This is my first time back in the hospital since my J-pouch surgeries 6+ years ago. Appreciate any feedback you can give.
