Im just curious about which surgeon and hospital has been utilized the most (I know many have mentioned Cleveland clinic, Mayo Clinic, Dr. Remzi who is now in NY, etc...). Could everyone just respond with who his/her surgeon was and which hospital. Feel free to leave a quick note on how successful things have gone for you and Your daily life with the J Pouch. Thanks.

Ill start - Dr. Reza Rahbar at UNC Chapel Hill did mine. J pouch life has been pretty good but I still have issues with not being able to empty the pouch Bc my anal sphincter over-tightens which leads to anal fissures every couple weeks and I can't workout Bc it'll add to the stress of the sphincter.

in 2008 I had Dr Kalady at Cleveland Clinic. Got bad infection, almost died and had many complications and structural issues with jpouch over the next several years. In October of 2015 had my pouch redone by Dr Remzi at Cleveland Clinic and so far all has been pretty good. Minor issues here and there and needed an incisional hernia repaired at the ileostomy site a few months ago.

Dr Najjai Mahmoud at The  hospital of the university of Pennsylvania ... January of 2016 so it's been a year. I hated my ostomy bag!!!! I think each day gets better with my Jpouch. I had my first biut with Pouchitis. Been on just Cipro and I feel great. Would I rather have a colon with NO ISSUES.... of course but god doesn't give us everything. I'm functioning although pretty tired. I think that has to do with diet so I need to change that. I am very thin... 97-100 lbs. usually around 98lbs.

Go to bathroom between 6-10 times a day. But usually around 8. Doesn't take long.

When I had the temporary ileostomy I practically lived in bathroom.

My j-pouch was done by Dr Kiran at Cleveland Clinic in 2012. I too developed an incisional hernia at ileostomy site one year after surgery. I would love to have it repaired. And the surgeons seemed willing to do that at some point. But when I saw Dr Bo Shen, he told me that we need to avoid hernia repair at all cost due to the high risk of damaging the pouch. Have you had any complications from your hernia surgery. And can you tell me what doctor did your hernia repair?

I used Dr. Jeffrey Milsom from Weill Cornell Medicine in NYC. I have a lot to say about him and ONLY positive!

I had my first surgery with a general surgeon  as it was a life threatening emergency (perforated colon) then when I had time to do research for the next 2 surgeries I was highly recommended to Dr Milsom.

He is the chief of colon and rectal surgery in Weill Cornell.

His bedside manner is amazing!!!! He is very very kind and treats you with respect. as far as the j pouch it is over 3 years and I can say I forget I  once had colitis, no medication, no complications since! Thank g-d!

Good Luck.

Surgeon - David Chessin (Cool guy, nice guy)

Hospital - Mount Sinai (New York City)

My scars are fine, they don't look grotesque. My bowel movements in the day are manageable. But at night they can keep me awake at times and cause me to have poor sleep.

Its been 5 years now since the surgeries and I haven't got any pouchitis or hospital stays. I just get less sleep. But besides the sleep, my life is much better now with the removal of my colon.

Good luck everyone! And may you have more good days than bad ones!!!
