I am 2+ years since take down and I am still afraid to eat most fruits and vegetables. I am new to this site and I see that many participants eat a diet more varied then mine. It is so good to see and it is giving me courage to begin trying more foods. Thus far I have only eaten potatoes, sweet potatoes, well cooked green beans and broccoli. For fruits only bananas and a little melon and skinned peaches. I have not tried any salad or even other kinds of well cooked vegetables. I am just so worried and afraid of pouch distress that I think I restrict way too much and should at least be brave enough to sample some new foods in small amounts and find out how I react. ( I am limited with meats too- only fish and chicken) Please give me any strength and encouragement you can offer. Thank you so much.

Keep a food diary. You will soon learn what gives you issues.

I am not a fruit lover, but I eat grapes and bananas with no issues.

I love salad (lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes) and have never had an issue with blockage, not even when I had my ileostomy.

What I did learn from my food diary was that dairy will cause me diarrhea. I only kept a food diary for the first 2 months and tried eating pretty much everything I love during that period of time.

Having dairy issues does not stop me from eating ice cream, cheese or sour cream (life is just too short), but I know I will have to go more frequently if I do. I can live with the trade-off.
