Some people (myself included) find Calmoseptine irritating, not soothing. It has menthol which is supposed to feel cooling but it was more of a burning sensation for me. I used plain A&D ointment.

My must have items were SOFT toilet paper, a bidet seat, a travel pack of wet wipes for when I left the house, and lots of soft, low residue foods. Greek yogurt is my #1 fave for recovery because it has a lot of protein and you don't have to worry about chewing.
Calmoseptine caused my butt to burn so my GI recommended Desitin which does not cause me any problems. Sometimes I just us Vaseline too.

The toilet paper that Pluot mentioned was right on. It must be soft. After my take down, I had the misfortuante problem having further prolems so my stay in the hospital was a lot longer and the toilet paper in the hospital was like using Sand Paper.

Good Luck

I hate Calmoseptine. It burned my butt so bad. I have two of them, and one not even opened. I use zinc oxide. I get it at Target in the baby department the UP & UP brand. Make sure you get the 40% zinc. I also love dubicaine. I had to order it through a website I think it was drugstore.com. I used both at the same time. Truly amazing. Dubicaine has pain medicine in it to help you out. Not much but just right.

Good Luck and keep us posted. You will require a lot of resting. Take that time you need.

I also documented everything I ate and pooped for the GI doctor and surgeon when I went back. It helped them see what was working and wasn't working. And also the time of each poop. Trust me, it showed them how fast or slow things were going through my stomach.

You will do fine and before you know it you will be like me and I am two years today with my take down.
