I've seen posts about noxious stool and gas, but I haven't seen this suggestion. Has anyone else tried using Devrom? It's chewable bismuth subgallate tablets that neutralize the smell of stool and gas in your body. https://www.amazon.com/Tablets...ablets/dp/B0045WG1P2
The hospital ostomy nurses (gosh, those nurses are truly invaluable!) included a flyer advertising it when I got my ileostomy. I ignored it, but as I recovered from my surgery, I could tolerate more foods and as I got my output to stop being watery, the smell got reeeeeal. I tried Ozium, which is a spray that a colostomy friend recommended, and it worked, but seemed like I was spraying it all the time (and you aren't supposed to inhale it, etc.).
I ordered and tried the Devrom. I chew on two at the beginning of lunch, two at dinner, and one before bed (two if I'm going to change my bag the next morning). I've tried fewer, but this works best for me. A few foods will still break through a bit (salmon and coffee mainly). But otherwise, my husband can't even tell when I've used the bathroom. And I use it a lot!
I don't know how effective it will be after my closure, but based on what you guys are posting, I'm sure going to try it. Let me know if you know of any reason I shouldn't be taking this. It seems too good to be true.
