Hey guys,

Now that I'm starting to feel human, I want to enjoy what's left of my summer, but not sure what to do when swimming. Do you take off the gauze/cover over your stoma, or leave it on? Has anyone found a waterproof bandage that will protect my stoma while swimming or sweating profusely? I tend to high a higher mucus production when walking, so I have to keep it covered unless I want a mess, any tricks you guys know?

Thanks,

Hi Eric,
I always leave my stoma covering on when swimming. As told to you in previous postings, I also have a huge amount of water-like mucous discharge & use the Mestopore S coverings. I have tried all sorts of bandages in the past, but none of them worked well for me. The only thing other than the Mestopore S that worked to soak up the mucous were nursing pads, but they moved around & didn't always stay directly over top of the stoma. I prefer the Mestopore S coverings so I don't have to have to deal with any tape to hold the stoma covering on. - Dixie
Hi Eric, this is what I use in the shower or everyday use! Johnson & Johnson has a waterproof and germproof
bandaid,they're(2.875x4inches)-6 in a box for $2.97 at Walmart! Also at Walmart in the make up isle you can buy these 100% cotton squares called Swisspers that you can place inside the bandaids for extra absorbency, that fit perfectly. Just an idea! Smiler
Hi Eric,
as an experienced K-poucher I use, as others do, waterproof bandaids sometimes and other times nothing. I pick swim wear that has some design and no one can see anything. In my earlier days I even risked a bikini. No problem. Same goes for intimate moments. A waterproof bandaid will do. That might be your next question Smiler
I am happy you are doing great and it will get even better with time. It's all in your attitude
