Stricture possible?!

Hi All,

I am hoping someone can offer some advice/reassurance? I have a jpouch that was created in 2004 as a result of ulcerated colitis. I’ve had a pretty easy ride (touching wood as I write this).

I’ve been getting some pain on my left side and I think it is where the bowel becomes the jpouch, I think I have a stricture here that is causing the discomfort. When the pouch is full the pain increases. I am also finding it more difficult to empty the pouch (I’ve had a stricture before between the pouch and annus) it feels kind of similar but not at the same time! Has anyone had anything similar? If you’ve had a stricture at the entrance to the pouch can they do anything to resolve this??

It could be a stricture or pouchitis or both. Time to check in with your GI I think.

If it is a stricture the GI can dilate it during a pouch scope and/or a surgeon can do so while under anesthesia. It depends on how bad the stricture it. I resorted to giving myself small enemas, utilizing my bidet or using an enema bag, in order to empty. It helped with the pain.

im assuming you have a jpouch! Is it safe to give yourself 2 water enemas during the night?

I had to give myself enemas when I still had my j-pouch. It failed so was removed.

Sorry to hear your pouch failed 😔.

I’ve been to the doctors, it isnt Pouchitis, thankfully. They have confirmed I have a narrowing at the end of the pouch (connected to annus) just waiting to see specialist. I am on a soft diet (smoothies, soup etc) and have increased my water intake to around 3.5litres per day (I have dioralyte and good bacteria yogurt daily) my strange concoction seems to be getting me through and the pouch function seems to be improving. Time will tell! Hopefully the doc will just keep an eye on me and send me on my merry way, fingers crossed!!

I was on a soft diet, much like yours, for around 9 months prior to the surgery but the diet didn't help like it is for you. That is good news!
