Re: stricture at proximal pouch

I just had a colonoscopy as I've been having more blockages. The results said I had a "stricture at the proximal pouch which is extremely tight" and they recommended seeing our colo-rectal surgeon about possibly stretching the area.
Has any one else had this???
Are there any specialists in the country for this type of surgery?
I can't have any more abdominal surgeries as I've already had 5 major ones and am so full of scar tissue the surgeon said it was like someone opened me up and put 5 cans of glue and poured them in my GI area. So perhaps they would do it thru the rectum.

If you live in Ohio, you are hopefully close to Cleveland and the Cleveland clinic. The specialists here are the best resource for jpouch patients in the country.

You can PM Becky's mom as her daughter has had similar issues, but she did eventually need surgery.

I have had two "operative dilitations" not really "surgeries"-more a procedure, and have since purchased a dilator to do it myself-not for the faint of heart.

Ask you doc what width he recommends he would like your stricture stretched. Google "hegar dilator" and buy the right size. Also ask him how far up the stricture is, and mark it on the dilator. You'll know you hit it when it hurts like $&$^#@%*.

Jeff, how far up are you talking about, an inch at the most? I'm curious because of my daily use of suppositories and I think that I insert them that much at the max, of course they are about an inch long so a max total of 2" until the suppository hits something.

When I first heard about dialators I was scared to death I'd have to use one.

Marie, when my stricture makes an appearance, it is about 4 or so inches in.
