Having a stricture procedure done next week @ Mt Sinai.
My surgeon was so scared of hurting me in his office, as much as he tried, I think I turned white and he couldn't finish. I have a j pouch (15 years) and other than an obstruction 7 yrs ago, it's been great. As of late the stricture (1 1/2 months ago) is making me real sick. Just want to know what to expect after surgical dilation. My GI in NJ couldn't even get the scope in, that's how closed it's become. I was glad he ruled out Crohns disease. This sight is a God send. Such good tips on here. Even tried the Bathroom Yoga and it worked, especially with this stricture- I'll stand on my head if it would help. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

Sounds like you definitely need a dilation under anesthesia. I have had a few of these for the same reason. They often do help. Aside from this, I am sorry I cannot offer you any more advice. Strictures can be very stubborn. If you have inflammation going on in your connection/cuff also they will see this via a scope and you may need some rectal medications like canasa or anucort to bring down the inflammation.

They may do just a manual finger dilation or a balloon dilation (depends on the GI's choice and how tight the stricture is). Good luck. Also, if you take any bowel thickeners or metamucil, maybe you want to back off on this until you get dilated and also maintain a low fiber diet.
I've had three outlet dilations under anesthesia within the past few months. The first one, I was walking like John Wayne for about 4 days... not really "pain," more just a *violated* feeling. The next two were progressively easier, likely because I wasn't as narrow. I'm not going to the bathroom WAAAAAY better, so it was a necessary evil, and I'm going to have him check me every so many months to make sure things stay open. When it was narrow, I, too, felt ill, couldn't pass anything without enemas, and couldn't pass gas unless I was on my back on the floor with my knees up over my head. Frowner It was pretty awful.
