Strange discomfort on old stoma area

Well it has been a very long time since I have visited this sight and started a thread. My name is LaurieF and I had JPouch surgery 10 years ago and have been blessed to say I am doing very well. Let me start with I also had a surgical hernia surgery probably about 7 or 8 years ago. Now I am having a strange discomfort in the area of the hernia sight which was actually right in the spot of my stoma. Anyhoo....I really think it has something to do with the mesh used for hernia but what procedure would be successful in having it show up? I can't get a colonoscopy because the entire colon was removed. And on top of that I can't consult with my surgeon because he retired! Which is really freaking me out. He was one of the best colorectal surgeons in the state and I don't trust anybody else poking around my JPouch!!! shake

It probably is just adhesions tugging inside. Imaging won't show it. A CT or MRI might show a recurrent hernia, but it is unlikely with a mesh repair. If you feel well otherwise, I wouldn't worry too much about it. That said, this is a good time to get established with someone new. Call your surgeon's office and see whoever took over his cases, or get a referral to a gastroenterologist.

You should be having periodic scopes anyway, and you don't have a surgeon for that.

I have had a lot of luck with a physical therapist trained in my myofascial release. The area of my old stoma hurt with digestion, got bkockages, and felt knotted to touch. She's massaged/done this specific PT treatment and the area is so different feeling, looking, and digesting. I'd highly recommend seeing a PT who works with adhesions/scar tissue.
