I was wondering if stool softeners were safe for me to take because it seems like all day today its been a struggle to pass stool and I have to push extra hard to get it out which is causing pain and discomfort in my rectum area. I haven't really read on here of people taking stool softeners so I wasnt sure. Please let me know if you have some insight or experience on using stool softeners and which ones you prefer. Thanks in advance.

I have taken stool softeners. You can take them without a colon. You do not need the full dose though I come to find out. Little goes a long way without a colon!

Sometimes I just take a swig of MOM or Magnesium citrate and things move along. Prune juice doesn't always cut it for me. I live on grape juice to stay runny with my pouch.
I don't think I'm gonna go to the extent of drinking mag citrate I'm not really trying to do a cleanse I just wanted to take something to make the stool a little softer in consistency so I don't have to strain as much to get it out. I was thinking in the line of dulculox but just wasn't sure how safe it was of if this is something some people use on a regular basis. I am open to other suggestions also.
Yea I only take small swigs of MOM or Mag citrate to move things, doesn't clear me out with such little consumed. Dulculox is heavy duty. My mom was in the ER puking for 24 hours on it (she has a colon). I am sure someone can chime in if they used it with no colon. I know I have friends with pouches that live on stool softners regularly but never asked what they use.
