I am just seeing if anyone has had any experience with this? My son (18) had the three step J-pouch surgery with the last surgery about a year ago. He has had chronic pouchitis since the beginning and has been on Cipro and has managed well. A few days ago he started complaining of bad stomach aches? He describes it as uncomfortable and feels like he is getting winded and can't breathe in deep because it hurts. He is still having his usual number of bowel movements (5/6). Dr. told him to go on liquid diet which he has but no change. Can't see him until after the holiday. Any experiences with this kind of problem? A bit worried - he has been through so much already....

It sounds like there could be something else wrong with him but with our j-pouches you just don't know. Is he having a fever or any signs of an infection? I suggest calling your GP and/or your GI's services and talking to the on-call doctors. If they say go to ER ask them to call ahead for you so you don't have to wait. I hope he is feeling better soon.

Might not be related. I had issues like that then it went away. I have had heart attach like symptoms but EKGs are clear.

Maybe indigestion, gas if it is stomach pain. Can be a number of things, for me it was indigestion but I felt like I was dying. Other lung issues I was told to see a doctor for that since it wasn't GI related.

Well we found out what it is - acute pancreatitis. Not the greatest news for an 18 year old. Anyone heard of UC patient and connections to pancreatitis? He is on a liquid diet now trying to get it to clear. After lots of research - I have a new concern which is what can this kid eat? Might start a new string for suggestions. Low fat diet with lots of fruits and vegetables don't work well with my sons pouch - he can't tolerate much of them.

Have you tried to make fruit smoothies with a protein mix for your son? I make one once a day with frozen fruit and stick in a carrot or fresh spinach too. I always include a banana. I use PlantFusion a plant based protein powder but there are many other's out there.

There are others that make smoothies out of veggies but I'm not very experienced with those...

I hope he's feeling better real soon Smiler
