Agree with others. At 5 weeks out you're really barely even beginning to figure things out. My dietician had said it would be a good 6-8 weeks before I could really start adding a lot of new foods. Of course, that was with the ostomy, but the adjustment period with the pouch is similar, if not even a little longer, since unlike the ostomy, with the pouch you are obviously quite aware what is coming out.
I don't really have much to add, except that for now, you should continue to stick with what works. In my early post-surgery days, I ate a lot of grilled cheese, tuna sandwiches, scrambled eggs, rice, and Kraft Dinner. To get my veggies, I stuck to soup and vegetable cocktails. I also ate bananas and avocadoes. I'm a foodie and I was so bored with the lack of variety, but I was also being deliberately very cautious, since I'd had several blockages with my ileostomy, 2 requiring hospital treatment, and I wasn't about to risk that again. I wanted to give my system as much time as necessary to adapt. So, believe me; though things may seem bleak now, what you're going through is really pretty normal for a new poucher. But, as with anything else, anxiety and worry always heighten the problem. Honestly, I find my pouch functions much better the less I think about it - even now, going on to 5 years post takedown. I think it's a great idea that you're seeing your psych. Your mood can exaggerate any issue you're having with your pouch, so if you and your psych feel you need an antidepressant, that is probably the way to go.
Hang in there!
