I am not sure what you mean by tru meaning

I am 30+ days out from 2nd takedown and my life is exactly you describe. My nights are miserable with one BM after another. Imodium is the only thing that works for me. I am comparing it to my IBS days before UC.

pains, spasms and frequency are almost the same. It’s hard to believe I am back to this life. For lack of diagnoses I am calling it irritable pouch syndrome.

LOL my surgeon says it normal also. Easy for them to say. Give it more time he says.

i agree the Imodium makes everything too hard. I would like to stop the Imodium but the pain and spasms and frequency are too much for me right now and my butt hurts. I am stuck in this cycle until GI scopes me and can put a diagnosis around this and alternative treatment,

Pankaj,

I really appreciate your good thoughts and enthusiasm around this. Everyone says it gets better.

I long for the day when I can proudly announce that my outcome has improved and my jpouch works as intended.

at this point, while whining gets me a a lot of sympathy, there is absolutely nothing in my control at this point that will change the final outcome. I pray my jpouch will stabilize and my pouch and I will have a long and happy life together.

ps. I had a lobster roll with butter for lunch today. I will be paying up for this in a few hours. LOL 😆

Here is a website on spasms: https://www.healthgrades.com/r...s-and-muscles/spasms

I cannot explain why this happens honestly. I know sometimes it can be caused by anxiety, stress, surgery, not exercising, dehydration, but that is about all I know about that, sorry- I hope this helps you.

OK, first you need to understand the difference between muscle spasms in the gut and muscle spasms in other areas. There are 3 different type of muscle fibers:

1. smooth muscle (as seen in the intestines)

2. skeletal (as seen in your arms, legs and spine)

3. cardiac (in your heart)

These different muscle types have different functions and properties. Smooth muscle in the gut is in constant wavelike motion. If it moves too fast or not coordinated, you get painful cramps. Anticholinergic medications like Bentyl work to calm these muscles. Sphincters can spasm too, so that they refuse to relax and allow the passage of stool. Both of these sorts of spasms lead to crampy pain. The cause can be pouchitis, SIBO (small intestine bacterial overgrowth), IPS (irritable pouch syndrome), food intolerances, or food poisoning.
