im thinking of retiring to the south. I'm in NYC now and very spoiled with all my Drs. What hospitals if I do go should I be looking to live near with good pouch GI Drs and pouch surgeons as I have a lot of problems.

Well, Florida is not so great, however I have heard that the Cleveland Clinic may not be so bad. I was seriously considering Florida until I found out it's not so great. One thing I would look for is a University hospital, a hospital with a medical school attached. Also NC near Duke may be a good choice. But check on the universities and what kind of GI program they have. We are moving to AZ because the healthcare is better, they have the Mayo Clinic in phoenix and TheUniverisity of AZ medical school, I think that's the one, or it may be Arizona State. I forget. But for me, I look for a university with a medical school. Then I check out the GI program. Good luck! I can't wait to get out of NJ either!
Jeffsmom.........I take exception to your comment about Florida...........not mad, just take exception because I goto Mayo Clinic here in Jacksonville and they are ROCK STARS!
I'd highly recommend Mayo Jacksonville with no exceptions!
and also if you do come to the Jacksonville area, let me know........I'd be tickled to meet you and help you find a home to buy/rent (I'm a Realtor and LOVE what I do and know the area very, very well!)
I'm sitting in Mayo Jacksonville right at this moment (visiting my brother after surgery), and I can confirm that it's a first-rate hospital. OTOH I have no idea if they are excellent at J-pouch surgery or experienced at caring for difficult pouches.
Hey folks, I did say that Cleveland was good. I'm did not know that Mayo had a facility down there. Good to know., but overall and in my experience, the healthcare with regular doctors, is not so great. They don't even carry malpractice insurance, which surprised the heck out of me!
Chuck, I go to south Florida, delray beach. Jacksonville is too far north for me! Looking forward to getting down there next month if Jeffrey continues to do well and is off the narcotics.
