The stoma nurse gave me a couple of new products to use. The main one I am finding helpful is a new wax ring for under the base; it is made by Welland and has manuka honey in it. Believe it or not, is cheaper than the "regular" rings! My skin has healed up with regular use over the past three weeks; no more bloody streaks or intolerable itching.
The second product is a honey cream which can be used on the skin directly around the stoma; MediHoney by Spring Medical. It is also helpful BUT can only be applied when the stoma is totally quiet and has to be completely dry before applying the new appliance. However, with a change first thing in the morning, it began healing up the severely red & ulcerated skin right by the stoma with only two applications. Can't use it every day (and am in hospital now for pouch advancement & a new stoma so might not need it again), but it was fabulous.
Maybe others will find some relief as well!
