just noticed a lump that pops out of my ileostomy scar when I cough the other day. It doesn't hurt but fear it will get larger and cause issues down the road. Going to see a general surgeon that my colorectal surgeon recommended. He specializes in lapro hernia repair. I'm sure size won't matter cuz it's small but because I have had a handful of surgeries will they not do lapro? And recovery time I have looked through the posts and I see anywhere from going home same day to spending 3 days in hospital. My consult is not till September cuz he's booked.

I've had a few hernias and had quite a few repairs. (Also had quite a few surgeries)...the first one fixed from the outside-in but didn't hold and they had to move my stoma (it is an active stoma)...that happened twice...it was a full open repair.
Then I met a specialist in Laparoscopic surgery and he did a great job.
I've had a few more repairs and they have all held nicely....
I stay 3 nights each time only because I have a k pouch and they like to be cautious with me.

The doctor that Remzi referred to me is highly recommended by him for his complex cases, his name is Dr Michael Rosen, and he heads the Hernia Center at the Cleveland Clinic. He specializes in lapro as well. I cant get in until Sept 29th for consult. I am just hoping I can get in to get it fixed before year end since its covered 100%.
I had a very small hernia at the ileostomy site. I went for elective repair with mesh (laparoscopic) performed by the same surgeon who created my pouch etc.
I was out of hospital the next day and back to work the week after. I couldn't do any exercise for a month or so after but once I got the all clear I started again (slowly)
now just as active as I was before, I just wear a hernia belt as precaution

I am hoping to only miss a day or two of work. I have a desk job basically.. hope that's feasible.. I have missed so many days from my surgeries that I don't have much left to take this year
I had the repair almost 2 weeks ago, it was an open mesh repair. stayed overnight in hospital and back to work light duty after a week and a half. I had an unrelated visit with my GI, Dr Bo Shen at Cleveland Clinic today and he was not happy to hear I had hernia repair with mesh. He stated that he does not like any mesh or foreign material put into body of people with IBD or jpouches. Anyone ever hear of this. ?
