Hi, I had my J Pouch surgery nearly 5 years ago. Pretty much from the start I had regular small bowel obstructions but managed most of them at home with just the odd trip to ER. Recently I've been admitted twice in a month. Prior to that they had become so regular that I had started to become drained by them. I've tried everything possible to avoid them.
It turns out that I have a stricture where my take down was done. They couldn't even get a scope through that part of my bowel. They have said that the only solution is a small bowel resection, which although may cause the same problem to occur eventually, should give me a little more time before having to revert to ileostomy. I'm pretty depressed about this to say the least!
My obstructions are complete obstructions, resulting in terrible pain and much vomiting. I just can't tolerate ER visits anymore, particularly as I just spend hours waiting in agony before they get me morphine and then have to spend days having tests which just tell me what I already know - so frustrating.
Has anyone here had this op after Jpouch and had a good outcome and no eventual ileostomy? I know I can live with the ileostomy bag, I did for 6 months, but I really, really don't want to if I can help it.
Any advise welcome.
Lottie
