Hi, I had my pouch surgery back in 2001 and have had very little trouble with it, other than two cases of pouchitis. I have noticed in the last month that after a BM I have a had a small amount of blood on the toilet paper. It isn't every time, but it is almost every day. I have decreased my lomotil/Imodium thinking that maybe it might be d/t a little bit of straining. I also notice that when I pass a lot of gas, there is usually a little blood. There is no blood in the stool, just on the toilet paper. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks, Vickie

Hello, Vicki.
Could it be an internal hemorrhoid or a skin tag? Or it could be from straining or even a hard stool. Even gas that is explosive can cause a bit of stress (stretch) in an already stressed area. Have you eaten anything that could irritate on the way out? If you have regular pouchoscopy it might show what the issue is.
Thanks for the input. I kind of wondered about the possibility of an internal hemorrhoid. I also think I may have made things worse by having some candy with nuts in it in the last month or so. Ever since I had a hysterectomy 4 yrs ago, the gas problem has been worse than normal -- simethicone helps a lot when I take it. I am going to try to "clean-up my diet a little, and re-adjust my immodium/lomotil doses and see if that helps, if not, will try to see an MD. Unfortunately my surgeon passed away a number of years ago and the only follow-up I had was with his partner, before I had the hysterectomy, and at that time he took a look and everything was fine. Thanks for the input. Vickie
