Does anyone else have skin tags by their anus? I have 2 that are each about the size of an ear lobe. I have had them since before my surgeries ... so over 10 years now. I hate them! They get very irritated, and "clean-up" after a bowel movement is often painful. Feels like butt burn. And just the fact that I have to do so much extra wiping to get a good clean causes further irritation ... and it is just time consuming and annoying. I am married, but I am still embarrassed how they look. I asked my surgeon (years ago) about removal - he said it is possible but the recovery is hard and painful, so not really worth it. I am sure he is right, but has anyone has some skin tags in that area removed? Surgery? Other remedies? Any advice/stories would be most appreciated. Thanks!

Are you 100% sure that they are skin tags? The size of an earlobe seems to be awfully big to me (but what do I know?)...if so, can they not slowly cauterise them? I get granulation around my stoma that grows rather big (from a grain of rice to double that) and the surgeon burns them with silver nitrate sticks to keep them in check...it I don't burn them they keep growing...but for now I control the size/bleeding with the sticks (I have a box of them....it doesn't hurt at all)...if I am consciencious (sp??)and cauterise them weekly then they shrink down...but those are granulations and not skin tags (could they be somewhat the same thing? Jan can tell us)...
If not there are homeopathic remedies that make skin tags fall off (they are viral if I am not wrong kind of like warts)...there is a medical laborotory called Lehning that has pre-prepared mixtures for warts and skin tags...you take the drops for 30-60 days and they really do make them go away...But like I said if it is granulation and not skin tags then it won't work.
Hope that this helps some.

Interesting, I never heard of granulation before, but I think I am going to look into the fact that it may be a possibility.
Funny how you mention homeopathic remedies - I was up early this morning and I watched an infomercial about a skin tag remedy! But the infomercial didn't mention tags near the anus ... seemed like the tags they were working with were much smaller. I will have to do some internet searching to see what remedies get good reviews. I am sure there are a lot of products out there that are useless, but if I find one with good reviews I would consider trying it out. Just have to make sure it is safe to use "down there".
I need to make an appointment with a new GI doc, because mine (who I have been seeing for 13 years now) no longer takes my insurance. I will ask him/her about it at my appointment. That way I can figure out if it is granulation vs. skin tags.
Thanks for your comments guys! This site is awesome, and a great too for us jpouchers and the like. Thanks to all the posters on here Smiler
Yep I have sexy anal skin tags lol....darn buggers. A top California CR surgeon is willing to remove them (and even recommends it - said it's big enough to cause discomfort and in the way), but I've been too chicken-sheet to book the appt Smiler. Plus as time goes by, they bother me less. Well some days they are more annoying than others. I use a lot of calmoseptine, and a bidet...sitz baths are good too. Anyway, if done by a GOOD CR surgeon, it shouldn't be that bad. Hundreds (thousands?) of people get skin tags removed...it's not a complicated procedure. Of course, jpouchers might have a bumpier recovery since we poop more, but if they realllllly bother you, I think they can be removed. It might hurt for a month after excision, but soft foods, rest and sitz baths will make recovery easier. I'm still planning on getting mine axed, just not sure when. I just got my jpouch 7-8 months ago.
Could Jan or someone please explain to me what "skin tags' are as compared to granulation? Here skin tags are virus related (warts) and as such are treated like them and burned with a form of liquid nitrogen, granulations are usually on the edge of an open wound like a new stoma that is trying to close over or like my stoma that slowly grows these little rice grains at the edge that need to be cauterized to prevent them from covering over the stoma.
I am trying to figure out what your skin tags are made from or a result of.
Sharon
