Silent pouches?????

Hi Heather, I use Coloplast Sensura WIDE outlet Easyclose - Velcro closure. It's the quietest bag I've ever tried, just a thicker plastic. I also wear a pouch cover I ordered on Etsy that adds to the quiet. I use the one piece, but I'm sure the quality of the plastic is similar for the two piece.

Sensura Mio didn't last very long for me, either. I really wanted it to work, too, because I loved the ability to peek behind the cover when I needed to, it was smaller...but my skin got irritated each time.

Hi Lambie Pie, thanks for your reply. I really like the Sensura Mio too but just wouldn't stay on, plus its a knack to actually attach the Mio Click at times. My Ostomy nurse said thats a common complaint with that system so have given up. I also have pouch covers that help and will look into the Sensura wide outlet too. 

I actually forget to change the Convatec moldable and wore it an extra day and my skin was still perfecto!! Its a great system as I hate cutting the damn flanges, and the moldable is so easy, shame about the rustling!!

Thanks for your help plus so peephole, its either entirely see thru or not at all, I prefer not at all in that case

Have you tried bag covers or ostomy underwear? I think if you did they would muffle the sound alot. Etsy is good place to buy covers. I like the flannel ones best. Ostomy underwear is available from Ostomy Secrets, a Convatec company.  They are expensive so I wait for sales but they work best for me. 

Have you tried any Hollister appliances? That's what I use and their bags are better than convatec's, IMO. 

Thanks for the info.  I have ileostomy surgery scheduled for tomorrow from a jpouch.  I'm terrified.  How is your experience?

Balletbarre, hang in there. Please ask any questions or concerns here. I've been through the surgery, including jpouch removal, and many others have been through some form of the surgery so we can help and support you. Be kind to yourself as you heal.

How is the ileo working out?  

Can you work out?  What about baths and showers? How old are you and how long did you have the jpouch?  Any complications?  Can you eat anything?

My ileostomy is working out great! I'm a fitness instructor so, yeah, I can work out!  I practice yoga, too, on my own and I just make sure my bag is empty before class. I'm 56, had my jpouch for four years. I eat everything, except quinoa gave me my first obstruction so I'm a little leery of it now. Some people on here shower with their bags exposed. I cover mine with Press N Seal. The bag gets a little wet but that's ok. It dries fast. I don't typically take a bath, which is weird because I lived in there when I had my jpouch to try and get some relief.

Take the healing period slowly and practice as much patience as you can. Focus on the positives. Sending healing thoughts your way....

Good luck with your surgery BALLETBARRE. I'm not kidding you about getting use to the appliance right after surgery, it was difficult for me. But after a short learning curve changing it became a breeze. In the hospital I suggest you change and empty it yourself after the surgery.  That way the stoma nurses are there to help you. I overheard one nurse telling another that I did it myself so would be easier for her shift. I still needed some help. 

I started out covering my bag during showers but eventually stopped. Using a hair dryer set on the lowest setting dries it off easily.  I like showering with it off on changing days too. You have to be careful not to get anything with oils on your skin that will be under your appliance.

I buy underwear for my appliance from Ostomy Secrets that is a Convatec Company.  The are pricey but not too bad when they go on sale.  They go on sale a lot.  The just had a St. Patrick's day sale of 35% off.  They have a shelf inside that holds the bag in place.

There are also bag "covers" that I've purchased from several vendors on Etsy. 

If anyone else knows of anywhere that sells specific Stoma underwear let us know.
