I haven’t posted in wow probably 4 years!  Overall I’m doing well at least until mid May when I started having severe rectal pain and discharge.  I don’t have a pouch anymore but do have approx 1” of rectal cuff left that is just hanging out down there. Beside a perinatal abscess 6 years ago it doesn’t bother me much normally. I went back to my CR surgeon and we treated with Canada first thinking it was a flared up cuff. Symptoms got worse not better and soon I had fevers, extreme pain, more discharge and was vomiting. An EUA showed a small opening (he called it a little beak) at the top of the cuff where puss and blood were draining though. So another abscess has formed and he put me on 2 weeks of amoxicillin. Everything seemed to improve and I finished the meds with all symptoms resolved. About 3 weeks later they started to return, but slowly. At first I didn’t think anything about them as a small amount of discharge has been normal for me for the past 14 years. On the 4th of July things got bad - pain, fevers, vomiting etc. called the Dr and got back on antibiotics. 3 day in and only a little improvement. Fevers were up to 102 so this Sunday we called the on call Dr. I also had started feeling a hardness just to the right of my anus. Dr said we needed to get in there and drain the infection so off the er we went.  CT showed a peach sized abscess just above the remaining cuff and reaching down to the right side where I felt the hardness. They drained it all out and put in a seton drain to keep things open and draining.

I’m still pretty sore and just wondering about other experiences with setons. Doc says we will leave it in while everything heals over the next 3months. If all goes well I shouldn’t have to do anything else. If thing don’t look to be healing or if infection comes back it will be time to finally have all the remain cuff removed once and for all.

The pain is starting to get a bit better at this point, but my stomach won't settle back to normal. I am nauseous and don't have much of an appetite. Ugh. I just took my last phenergen and am waiting for the doc to call some more in.  I am not seeing as much bleeding at this point, but still have a pink, yellow-y discharge. I am using 4x4 guaze pads tucked in between my cheeks right now. The dr said I could use cotton balls, but there is still too much drainage for that. Any thoughts on how long until the drainage settles down some?
