I am 4 weeks post ileostomy takedown. A few days after surgery I developed a mass under my incision site. After an ultrasound I was told it was a seroma. My surgeon thinks it will heal on it's own given time. However the mass seems to be increasing in size and is painful when bending and picking things uP. I have lots of pain when Pushing to have a bowel movement or any movement that requires the use of my abdominal muscles. I have brought this to my surgeons attention but he thinks it's normal an not a concern. I guess my question is why is it getting bigger and more painful? When will it start to feel better? Any advice is much appreciated.
Hmmm, seems weird to me. Not weird that you have a seroma, but weird that your surgeon chooses not to drain it when it is causing you pain. They can become chronic, especially if they continue to grow. I had to have mine asprirated about five times, and this was after having an indwelling drain for two days post op. I didn't even need any imaging for the surgeon to know what it was or what needed to be done.

I would keep bugging the surgeon about it...squeaky wheel, and be sure to emphasize how uncomfortable it makes you.
