I'm 4 weeks post op from surgery to create j pouch and my skin has just started burning in the last week or so. I'm very careful to use cream after each bowel movement and after I bath/shower. I knew I was to expect skin breakdown due to the caustic nature of the BM but am curious to know other people's experience as to how long I can expect this burning to last. The Ostomy nurse in the hospital did let me know that the skin will "toughen up" over time but I failed to ask her how long it would take on average ( I know everyone is different). I'm really interested in finding out from a few of you so I can maybe get a rough idea.
