I have a close friend who lives in Staten Island, NY and I have not been able to contact him either at his home or his office and I don't know what is going on. I assume he cannot travel from Staten Island to Queens where he works but when I call his home # I just get a message that the call cannot be completed.

Now that we have had time to assess we here in coastal CT were somewhat more fortunate than those in NYC and NJ. Although my cousin who lives down in Fairfield County which is the southwestern part of CT still does not have power and is running on a Generator which she purchased in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene. And she told me her community (Trumbull) is still 60% without power as of today.

It's probably a good time to invest in one of these companies that makes Generators. It's amazing to me how dependent we are on the electrical grid. Although my office did not lose power and we have worked full days since Tuesday, everyone else seems to be a few days behind due to loss of power, short staffed offices due to people not being able to get to work etc.
I consider myself fortunate.

Lost 3 huge pine trees that fell to the side, otherwise one of them would have smashed my daughter's bedroom. Had no power until last night. Certainly glad now the toilet flushes without me using the water I filled up in the bathtub before the storm.

My brother got a lot of damage to his house. One of his cars was smashed beyond repair by a tree. His pool is ruined. He has over $15k by his estimate in damages. He can't work now so he has no income.

As you know, many of us as reported in the news lost their homes, some their lives.
