hi, I haven't posted anything in years on here.

Dianosed with UC 11

colon removed without having to get an ostomy age 17

week later emergency surgery to have pouch put on the outside. Age 17

4 months later had pouch reversed. age 18

After coming home from the hospital I experienced constant nonstop bowel movements. Even time when I could not make it to the rest room.

After about 6 weeks after that I begin to be able to make it to the rest room but, was going 20-30x's a day. I was miserable..

Then about a week after that I started to experience blood in my stool again.

So decited to see a new doctor and he told me that I still had some UC left in my Rectum. So started treating me with medicines. The doctor told me the that frequent bowels were normal which I couldn't believe.

About 3 years after that I went back for another scope and he said that my J-pouch was cut wrong and didn't look right. Age 21

Then my mother decided to take me to Emory and my GI just said that I needed to get another ostomy for a little bit and that would help the left over UC. Age 23

Just not having a life at all my family doctor looks at me and says you know you got to find another GI doctor. Age 26

I finally get to a point where I can't take it knowing that I'm going to have to get an ostomy because of how sick I was that I finally see a new GI. Age26

Well he scopes me and says that I do have a colon and everything looks fine. I get him my history on my surgeries and he looks again and says that he can not help me because my  J-pouch is cut wrong and sends me to Mayo.

So decied to see a doctor there and he tells me the same thing and what they would do is the revision surgery in one step and I would have a 50% rate of living with an ostomy for the rest of my life.  They couldn't even explane to me why I was cut wrong so that bothered me a lot also. I was about to just go through with the surgery and my mother said she wanted to see if I could get in to Cleveland Clinic where they'r known to be the best. Age 27

Jan of this year I had my first apt with a very well known successful surgeon who does thousands of the surgeries I needed to have done. His percentage of me not having a permeant ostomy was 75% and for the first time in my life I found a doctor who said he was going to fix me. My mom and I were almost in tears. Age 27

After a couple of days I had my scope and he finally gave me an answer on why I was cut wrong. He said that when I had my first surgery 10 years ago that my surgeon didn't stich my j-pouch correctly causing the stitching to come apart. This caused my J-pouch not to feel up all the way. Which, caused me to use the restroom so many times.

He told me that this process was a 3 step surgery process and that he would be there though it all the way to the end. 1 step give the UC and pouchitis a break creating an ileostomy, that I would have for 6 months. Then come back and have my J-pouch taken out and put back in correctly, and also remove the UC in my Rectum. Then have the bag 4 more months then reversed.

March 11, 2016 was my 1st surgery so now just counting the days till my next one. Age 28

I was wondering if anyone has had the revision surgery and how it went for them?

I'm very nervous about my next surgery so wanted to get some advise.

Thanks

I've read many people on here discuss their revisions. Try to do a search on different key words and you could look at previous posts on this subject.

I am a Mayo Clinic patient and found them to be awesome.  Everything was explained very well by my GI and surgeon. I  tried being diverted to a permanent ileostomy and letting my j-pouch rest but it didn't work so 2 months ago had it removed.

It sounds like you have a construction problem that can be fixed. I understand your worry. Any percentage of a failed outcome results is a guess. I read somewhere that only 4% have one of my problems. Like I said someone had to be in the 4% and that was me. My husband had only a 25% chance of prostate cancer so was going to pass on getting the biopsies thru his rectum done. I remunded him of my 4% and he elected to have the biopsy.  He had cancer and it was still at a low enough level that it could be surgically removed. If he had waited longer that might have also required chemo or radiation. So please don't be surprised if the percentages turn out not in your favor.  You are in good hands. Good luck!
