I had J-pouch surgery in 2005. While I was in the hospital recovering I developed awful RLS. Since then I've gone through periods where it's been not so bad and sometimes almost unbearable.
It manifests mainly with my thighs involuntary twitching and convulsing if I am lying down or sitting. At a certain point I realized that if I went to the bathroom, even if it was just a small amount, it would go away immediately.
That realization makes me think that the surgery rearranged the nerves down there, and when stool is near the exit it presses on a nerve that triggers the RLS.
It also makes me wonder if the urgency to go before I had the surgery (when I had UC) is triggered by nerves down there being pressed.
Has anyone else experienced this?
