I've heard a lot about resistant starch lately and how great it's supposed to be for feeding beneficial gut bacteria. However, resistant starch conflicts with the idea behind the diet I'm on (SCD diet). I noticed the university of Massachusetts researchers allow oatmeal, rice and quinoa in their modified version of the SCD diet so I'm wondering if they would be beneficial. Is anyone here being helped by resistant starch and is anyone using it with a low carb diet?

I tried resistant starch in the form of Bobs Red Mill potato starch and felt great. Have to work slowly up to 4 T or u get gas. But do research on the internet cause I started reading bad things about long term use of this so I stopped? I guess you can do natural stuff like cold potatoes or rice but not sure if u can eat enough to make a difference? I was on Paleo for a few months. In the end everything stopped working and I'm back on meds and off this diet to try and gain some weight.
Thanks for the info, AlleyKat! I will keep that in mind about not doing it long term. I agree, sometimes you just have to eat what you can to keep the weight on. I hope it goes well with your new regiment!
you may want to read this article about scd verse fodmap which explains some of the carbohydrate differences. the author, patsy catsos, is one of the leading fodmap dieticiens in the US.... and in case you are unfamiliar, the FODMAP diet was developed in australia with medical and scientific research.

Ha, I just ate this week a 3 lb bag of M and M's from Costco, good for my depression and I gained 2 lbs.
I have had a great week with my pouch. It must like sugar!
I ditched the augmentum cause of the nasty yeast infection and went back on xifacan.
Getting a MRI on Sunday and a endo/pouch scope on Thurs.
I actually like the Paleo diet and will definitely go back to something after the tests the week.
Interesting that this Foodmaps allows sugar and Paleo/SCD does not.
