Hi all, can anyone share his or her experience regarding stitches after rectum removal? My surgeon told me that mine will come out on their own. Three days from now will be three weeks since my perm ileo surgery and I was just wondering how long it takes for the stitches to come out. I keep checking my underwear and toilet paper but nothing so far. I'm also curious to know if the discomfort in my "crack" will be relieved once the stitches are gone. It's not horrible by any means, just could feel better. Thanks!

I don't remember about the stitches, but the butt pain is the worst part of the surgery.  The worst part is sitting on a toilet seat which stretches the wound out.  It's been 6 years and I still won't sit on one, so I can't imagine how it is for a woman.  It took 1-2 months to be comfortable with it in daily life.

I think they just dissolve, not really fall out.  I had a knot that was very uncomfortable that took the longest to dissolve (the nurse could see it and I could feel it) and once that was gone, I was so much better.  Again, the 4 week mark was when I really felt better.  My bottom probably hurt until about week 5 and my incision still had to have a dressing until week 6.

Hang in there!
