Hey all,  I am a long time ostomatwe that finally plucked up the courage to get it reserved. I had UC for a long time, got it removed and wore the bag for 12 years and had little or no issues apart from the normal problems associated with the pouch. I always wanted to try a J pouch but one thing or another got in the way , until now.

I finally did it a month ago and after a host of major problems with NG tube, catheters, irrigating stoma and others, I am recovering only the strain/pain in my butt is unreal , I am on valum to help but but I seem to go to the bathroom 10/15 times a day and sit there and squeeze a little mucus out , sometimes a lot and other times none but it is like having colitis again although with less pain. I am scheduled for my test in 3 weeks to see if I am ready for Takedown and I know with the pain here that is not a good idea. I am just hoping it goes away or if anyone else has had similar issues. Any advice would help , thank you

Do not strain. Remember you haven't used those parts in forever. You anus is hooked up and your brain, butt, and new plumbing have to figure out how to work together.  I think talk to your surgeon if no issues look into pelvic floor PT because increased tone.  I know my mom had an ileo for a year and when reattached had very frequent small passing for months...she had seventy five percent of her colon!  Imagine us, no colon...and your anus not used for a long time.  I say always make sure it isn't medical like pouchitis then do other modalities. What say he old timers???
