I had recto-vaginal fistula repair about 1 and half years after my takedown surgery... that was 30 years ago. It improved the situation but not completely cured it, necessitating a follow-up surgery about a year later which improved the situation to the point that I barely am aware I have it, although it still shows up as very minimal on scans. 28 years later, no abcesses, no pain, only very occasional tiny discharge. I am very satisfied and so is the surgeon. As far as we are concerned it is a non-issue now.
The first surgery where I had an abscess and more had to be removed took about 1-2 hrs. the second was a little quicker. The only problem I remember during recovery was that since an incision was made, there was a little burning when i urinated but I quickly found out how to avoid that short term problem....urinating while my Bidet was on or in the shower. Wishing u a successful and easy procedure.
No colostomy. I have no way of knowing how long the healing internally took, but as far as what was visable to me, about 10 days. However I did feel pretty well very soon afterwards and with just not doing anything too strenuous and just commonsense limitations. However, this was done as out-patient and also everyone's situation is different. Hopefully yours will be relatively easy and uneventual and successful.
