My rear end starting getting a lite bit sore on Wednesday. I had a long day at work and then sat in bleachers for about 3 hours for daughter's volleyball game on Tuesday so I just thought it was from that. Throughout the day on Thursday and Friday it continued feeling pretty tender so then I thought it was probably just a hemmorhoid flaring up a little bit. Last night it continued to get more sore and I could feel a lot of pressure and a lump starting. It is just on the right side of my rectum and feels like it goes inside a little bit and to the right. Today the pain is continuing to get worse and the lump or swollen area is getting a bit bigger too. I think it's probably from the right side of the rectum out to the right about 1/4" or maybe 1/2". It's really starting to hurt and of course, no clinics are open and I live about 1-1/2 to 2 hours from Madison where my Gastro surgeons/specialists are located. Nobody around here knows anything about pouches.
Has anyone had this happen? What could it be? An abcess? What should I do? It hurts in about any position and especially if I squeeze those muscles like in a kegal exercise. It feels like the swollen area (which feels hard to the touch) is right inside those muscles.
I am scheduled for a barium pouch study on Tuesday due to other problems emptying and then a pouch endoscopy. I'm getting worried that it will be too painful to do the barium study, I've never had one done since my takedown so not sure what to expect but I'm assuming they insert the barium through the rectum? Not sure how they could do this if its all swollen and painful.
I have pain meds here so am hoping by taking pain meds, I can make it my appt with my surgeon on Tuesday so he can check this out. Do you guys think that's wise or do you think I should go to the ER? I had a fever on Wednesdsy this week but otherwise temp has been normal. I have not had any bleeding either.
Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated. I've been soaking in hot baths and have used a little Preparation H but neither seem to be doing anything.
Thank you so much and I look forward to hearing your advice.
Wendy
