Rectal bleeding after surgery

Yes, I had it between my first and second surgeries.  My surgeon said the same thing and things have worked out fine since then.  It was basically blood mixed with mucous.  Yes, it freaked me out at first.  It didn't happen all the time but I used light days most of the time.

Hello, Aimee. My home care nurse at the time said it was old blood and mucus from the surgery making its way out. The body has its own remarkable way of cleaning and shedding the unwanted. And the intestine makes mucous all the time to help things move along. I had a loop ileostomy and occasionally there would be a tiny bit of stool that would somehow  "bypass" my stoma and slip down the downward-end of my loop ileostomy and come out like a BM even though my ostomy bag was filling up properly. I never felt an urge to push, but if I did I would listen to it and go. It could be your internal workings doing what it has always done when there is a bit of stool there. That should end when you have your reversal / takedown. If you are bleeding profusely or in pain, call your doctor, or surgeon.

I had this too between surgeries and told it was normal.

Thanks for the responses. Im guessing that your final surgeries went okay and you are good with your new normal with your jpouches. Somehow it makes a person feel better knowing someone else went though the samething they are now going through and came out the other side just fine. Thanks again you guys. It helped alot.

Hi, I've also had Step 1 of 3 done, mine an emergent colectomy 5 months ago. I too, have daily rectal blood/mucus discharge, and can't wait to end it with Step 2. Have transferred medical records to Cleveland Clinic and awaiting their response. Anyone have experience with CC? I'll be an out-of-towner and will deal with the logistics rather than take any chances with a local surgeon.
