Recovering from obstruction

So sorry you had to go through that. Not sure I’ve ever heard of vomiting feces though. That’s a first! Sounds very painful. I’ve had two instructions post surgery and two before my takedown. I remember the ones post surgery were so painful, and it took a week to do for my stomach to stop hurting. 

Someone explained that it’s like twisting a balloon, and even when it’s untwisted it still hurts on the area hat was stressed. 

You said you’re on a low residue diet, so that should help for sure. Give yourself some time to recover. You’re lucky you made it all these years without an obstruction! Fingers crossed it’s your last!

This won’t get back to normal overnight. I’m glad the obstruction has cleared!

Wow. I had the same issue 3 days ago and I've had a pouch for about 10 years. I've had 2 minor blockages in the past but this one had me wake up in the middle of the night in absolute hellish agony. I did not go to the ER and 3 days later I'm still suffering intermittently. I'm just eating soft stuff like bread and meat for now and drinking sugary stuff like soda. 

What causes this? Is it likely to be a stricture or adhesion? 

Well, it's been over a week now and today is the first day that I felt more or less back to normal. Bloated feeling went a couple of days ago and no pain apart from the odd twinge now and then. Pouch output is still very watery but am putting that down to my diet over the past week. 

This incident really wiped me out after 16 years with no problems at all, hoping it's a one off as the pain really was horrific.

to respond to Bubba 1028, I’m not sure how common the vomiting of fecal matter is, however I can confirm it does indeed  occur. I’ve had my jpouch for 16yrs and have had 3 obstructions requiring hospital treatment- the 3rd occasion 4 years ago was the worst as I required 2, separate emergency laporotomies - one week apart - no cake walk! Anyway other than pain and lack of bowel movements it was the vomiting that intially led to me calling NHS24 (I live in Scotland).  When I described the look and “taste” of the vomit to the nurse taking the call she sounded quite shocked and told me it sounded like I was vomiting fecal matter - I was absolutely horrified! It’s a truely dreadful experience and tastes just as you would imagine it to. I spent 4 weeks in hospital, 2 of those in High Dependancy recovering from surgery. I did not know the body could produce that amount of vomit! At one point the HDU ran out of sick bowls because of me! I could fill 3 500ml bowls in 1 go - impressive lol! Obviously prior to my first operation I’d had an NG tube, however as the surgeon thought the problem was fixed it was removed a couple days after my op but then the vomiting began again in a spectacular fashion and a CT scan showed another area which was blocked by adhesions therefore a 2nd op was required. I would not wish that experience on anyone!

@Adey1982 I had my takedown in 2000. This past April I had my first blockage. I ended up in the ER - and it did resolve. My insides were so sore. Walking around was painful. I talked to my GASTRO who really didn't give me any guidance about it.  It took almost a week. Then 2 days ago I had another blockage. Ended up in the ER and it also resolved. My belly is sore and bloated again but it wasn't as bad as the first time. The first time I took off about 5 days from work. I think I'll be OK this time.  I read on some post about blockages that it's more common to have blockages 15 plus years after surgery. Yeeha.  I try to stay away from foods that increase inflammation - like sugar, dairy and gluten.  Do some stretching if you can. Try to keep moving a bit.  The tendency is to curl up and wait.  Actually you must be better. I checked the date and you are about 3 plus weeks out.
