in speaking to another jpoucher yesterday who seems to have similar problems and antibiotic dependent sibo ..i suggested that one eat smaller overall meals but eat more often..i try to eat or graze besides my three meals during day..i think those of us with issues similar to my own do better not eating till you are full..also not over eating to much of a particular food in day..like almond products because that will cause to much of a fiber problem...and i try to remember chewing, chewing chewing and not eating too fast (bad habit of mine i have to constantly remind myself)

another thing for those of you who feel eliminating all those carbs and lower fruit intake for example will leave them underweight the trick is again to eat more of the things you can eat..(5 times a day instead of 3)increase your good fat..when you cut carbs you need more fat..i even have bacon one or two times a week now!!!!use my olive oil more liberally, avocados yummy and high in calories..recently ordered some treats from site digestive wellness..all foods dcd approved..yummy brownie muffins(no sugar no chocolate1)apple and pear butter spreads, some star velvet almond cookies for example..adds some yummy calories that are grain ,gluten, sugar free ,lactose free(use of honey)i eat the homemade yoghurt(very easy to make two week supply(this is from a none cook!)yoghurt i find very soothing to my tummy at all times..i throw in some low in sugar blueberries, almonds and cinnamon, very tasty..generally good for zibo and ouchitis sufferers..

also i was about three months into diet..no starchy carbs simple sugar for three months or so before i stopped antibiotics..i think that was a factor maybe to balance the bad bacteria first..

well i am still a work in progress and haven`t figured it all out yet and do not know if all will continue working but so far making progress

i have absolutely no explanation for being able to forgo the antibiotics now for over 3 months except the sticking to diet..in 7 years was never able to go a day without them otherwise..

have no idea if diet and probiotics will get someone to the same place i find myself because i began using diet because of the sibo ..which is overgrowth of bacteria and not pouchitis but innately i feel it will help by cutting down on bacteria but to what extend i am not sure..and if diet alone will work if one has various conditions of pouch..i am still trying to figure out that myself..

but hoping these updated things help someone else ..

I do find that eating smaller meals helps me feel less bloated. I never had to be that way, but 20 years in, it's become something that really impacts me these days. However, I'm being worked up for Celiac disease, so the bloating might be related to that. Could also just be GERD... a lot of folks in my family have hiatal hernias... Don't know. Could be SIBO, too, and if that, I'll likely go back to strict FODMAP.

I've never had issues with weight since my surgery. In fact, the older I get, the more I gain! Not that I'm overweight by any means... I ran 5'2" and about 115-120lbs for YEARS; after 35, more like 125-128lbs.

I never had to watch, but these days, anything that is too fibrous or doesn't break down, I have to be careful, more often because I tend to be narrower down "there," at the anal canal anastamosis site these days. Have had an issue with a stricture, so I dare not get plugged up again, so I take no chances. So no nuts, popcorn, corn, peas, Chinese vegetables, mushrooms, quinoa, granola, etc. If I eat a few nuts, it's ok, or a piece or two of popcorn, but not handfuls. Any of that stuff, and I have to drink a LOT of water, and chew, chew, chew! I even had some issues eating too much avocado! It's about balance with me, I suppose.

I've been "gassy" for years, but never thought anything about it, and when I'm NOT gassy, I have a harder time going! Need the propulsion, it seems, lol.
rachel i think i am seeing that as good as it may get for me as long as i have pouch i will always have to be mindful of eating certain things in a day or days in a row..balance is going to be the key and as we all know it is not easy and thats not from lack of trying..its just not always easy to figure out with all the constraints..

i think i am having to face up to fact i cannot eat almond products(FLOUR etc) without some restraints..or too many fruits in a day or days in a row for example..

but i remain grateful i am off antibiotics not because its now perfect but because its possible at all!!! i`ve added imodium daily and for me i believe it is helpful in doing better daily..working on the balance issue of foods i can take and how often or how much, and then how to be sure some others i have added do not effect me adversely(as concern for general good health) like increasing my fats to keep up weight and energy since removing many carbs.
