RASH UNDER WHERE STOMA WAS AFTER J-POUCH

I had takedown surg. may 10, 2012. I have a rash where my stoma was on the right and left area, about the size of a quarter. My DR. put me on some yeast med. and it didn't work still have problem. Nothing I have tried has worked to date.

Thanks for any guidance.

What medication did he put you on and when? Was it an antifungal cream or a pill? If a pill it can take up to two weeks to clear up. I had to take several megadoses once a week for two weeks and I saw improvement in a week and it was mostly gone in 2 weeks.

He gave me 2 tablets of Diflucan and then when it was still there, he gave me a topical ointment Nystatin. It has been sine 7/1/2012 and it has still not cleared up. My surgeon left the state and now his office is sending me to a dermatologist. What a hassel!

A dermatologist can scrape the affected area, put the skin samples under a microscope and know in 30 seconds not only whether it is a persistent yeast infection, but the type of fungus as well. I would request that this be done so that the diagnosis can be confirmed.

Until that happens apply an antifungal powder to the affected area. Zeabsorb AF is a good one.
