Has anyone else ever used this stuff or heard of it? My surgeon just prescribed it this past week at my post-op appointment and I wish I'd had it from the beginning!

Basically it is a powder which I add to 150 ml of liquid three times a day and drink. It helps MASSIVELY cut down the acidity of my output which in turn relieves the BB and the urgency! I read the directions and it said the effects would be noticeable within three days and boy, were they! It's great.

I have also discovered that the cream I posted about previously for BB is just this powder mixed with silicone cream; if you can get both, you can mix it yourself.

Between these two things my BB is really healing up quickly and my urgency is less (of course, immodium helps with that as well!).

The only downside is the drinking of it. It has no taste, but it makes the water very thick and sort of lumpy; not a pleasant drinking experience. I tried it with juice, but it was even worse. I'm just dealing with it, but if anyone else has used this stuff and has any tips to make it more palatable, I'd love to hear them!

I was discouraged from using it as I take medications and there was a big chance it would interfere with the absorbtion of them.

I did well with Imodium and metamucil. My surgeon scheduled out how much of each for me to use at each follow up appointment subsequent to my surgeries and then I gradually took over. I used calmoseptine for BB. I had a hand held sprayer attached to the toilet's water supply which was wonderful for keeping everything clean without excessive wiping which contributes to BB.

I now have a bidet seat and wish I'd gotten it first thing. While the sprayer was great the bidet is awesome!

FYI - I took generic metamucil gel capsules vs drinking the powder. It was much easier to use less water with them. We are to use less water than people with colons do as we want them to absorb more.

I'm glad you are doing well! Just wanted to add in my 2 cents for those who take medications.
Sorry if I came off as telling you to change GinLyn. It's working for you so don't change! Recovery was hell on earth for me and I wish you the best one you can have! I have a prescription filled of it that I never used, so that's how close I came to using it. If I were not on so many medications I would have tried it myself Confused

Everything will get better, it just takes a long long time to recover.
Ha, Marie, I am a lot harder than that to offend! Big Grin

I hear you about all the meds; thank God for pharmacies and doctors who keep track of interactions; I'm not sure I'd ever be able to keep it all straight.

I was wondering about the metamucil as I have used it before with great success and have a ton left (it is by prescription only here, believe it or not!), but he thought I'd better use this stuff for a while. Hopefully things will be much better in a few months; I already have so much more control than I did even a week ago, so right now I'm pretty happy.

i had butt burn for the first 4 months after surgery. but i was going thru twice the pain since i deveolped a fistual right after my final surgery. they tell you it takes a year for the jpouch to really heal and to work fully and they are spot on about that. i lost a lot of weight from the 2nd surgery and after my takedown i couldnt put any weight on andwith the fistual it was just awful. but as soon as that year marked it was like night and day. i felt even better than i did a month prior and i didnt think that was possible. but i got what is called calmoseptine and it works so well!!!
