After a pelvic MRI, my GI found that I have five fistulas and several deep abscesses (I only knew about one...). It's my first time having them. Per my GI's request, I'm seeing my surgeon on Wednesday to check out the fistulas. I assume I'll have to have surgery to repair and drain the problems. I'm not quite sure what "type" of fistulas I have. I can only feel one in the perianal area. I don't know the types of surgeries, so I know that my questions are harder to answer.

Are most of these surgeries out patient? How long is a typical recovery (as in how much work am I possibly going to miss)?

I JUST started a new job as a librarian trainee (in my field! A real big kid job...well part time!). My job is in the same library district as I've been for 7 years, but a different building and a higher position. I know they'll be understanding and my health comes first, but I don't want to miss much work if possible.

Thanks for any help.
