On Dec 31, 2013 (5 weeks ago) I had my rectum, colon removed and the j-pouch formed. I was curious how much fluid normally comes out of the rectum? I have fluid come out once or twice a day, and it is usually quite a bit. Is this normal? Also at the end of my 4th week, I began having fluctuating fevers between 99 and 100 degrees, however I don't feel ill. Is this normal as well? Thank you, Don

In regard to your temperature, it is not considered a fever until it is at least 99.6F. Your very low grade fevers could easily be due to dehydration, so be sure to keep pushing fluids, even if you think it increases your ileostomy output. Sip fluids all day long, instead of drinking a full glass quickly.

But, continue to take your temperature to be sure it is not a rising trend. Typically, if you feel well, you are well, but sometimes an infection can sneak up on you.
