for those of you that have this issue I have a question. Although I don't get a lot of it I am having slight issue. I usually have to put some toilet paper back in there to stop the small amount of leakage I sometimes have. the issue is that im getting irritated back there due to the paper. But then when I put the Calmoseptine on back there, and I do get some leakage it becomes kind of a mess back there. any help or suggestions?

Would ilex help (maybe hardens more when dry)or warm water enema to fully empty? If you have a hand sewn anastomosis, I know this can be an issue. Maybe try very thin liners? They are much less irritating to skin.
Yeah probably try liners first. im sure toilet paper is somewhat irritating
Poucho,
How often are you dealing with this? This is one of the reasons I may lean towards permanent ostomy versus Jpouch redo. Maybe over time it improves?. Please keep us posted. I'm facing the surgery decision too and any help from others who have gone down this path is greatly appreciated. Good luck w your continued recovery
Hey Poucho.... I didn't have initial leakage. But after going the first time of the day it seems I had whatever was there ooze the rest of the day. Yes... It irritated but I put a feminine liner on my underwear. And carried some with me. Easy to change out and also kept the paste off my underwear. They worked quite well and did let the paste ruin underwear. You get used to wearing them.
Good luck.
Richard.
I had leakage after my redo, and gradually it decreased to the point of no problem! I think everyone leaks after the pouch surgery to varying degrees?

it happens randomly, sometimes more than others but its not a lot at all.its not leaking into my underwear it just gets in the anus area and irritates if I don't get it fast enough. I had the mucousectomy with the redo as well and that can cause a little more leakage as well. I think I would rather deal with this issue than having a bag to be honest

I'm not a fan of the liners, mostly because im not leaking enough for stool to get that far. It is just in the anus area and if I don't take care of it for awhile things get irritated.. a small couple times folder square of toilet paper do the trick but its starting to irritate. maybe the shiny gauze sponges would be better?

hey buddy. how far out are you now from takedown? and when do you leak now if at all? im at the 9 week mark
Hey, Poucho ! Surgery was July 28, I think so eight months out, very intermittent issues only once in a great while depending on what I eat. I even forget to take imodium .. probably best if I have two a day just to be safe. Not an issue to any large degree at all now, I'm happy to say!
There's a product called a Butterfly pad. My friend gave me one to try. I haven't yet but it's an adhesive pad in the shape of a butterfly. You fold it in half and insert between your "cheeks". The adhesive holds it in place. Especially for this very problem. She bought them at Walmart.
Good luck!!

tried them, don't like the adhesive on my hairy butt..lol
I leak about 75% a day. I were a pad from one end to the other. If I can't get to rest room it irritates my rear end and skin gets raw a alot of pain while walking anywhere. Was told My 15 year old j pouch 4 years ago has become weak due yo so many infections. Causes painful spasms and lose of control. The leakage is horrible.
