question about Saccharomyces Boulardii

I have been prescribed an antibiotic that specifically lists c difficile as a possible side effect (Cephalexin). I'm looking for other's experience and opinion about whether I should include Saccharomyces Boulardii which I, according to posts here, understand might help prevent c diff. Your thoughts are appreciated

It mostly depends on if you'll be taking the antibiotic long term and if you've previously had a C. diff infection (both of which would increase your risks).

If it is just a short course, for an unrelated infection for example, probably not necessary.

I actually got c.diff after taking cipro once and have had c.diff repeated times with my j-pouch so I take s.boulardii. That said, I agree with Jan.

I decided to take s.boulardi while I'm on the antibiotic as it may be a longer course than I first anticipated. My question now is about the timing - do I take it at the same time as the antibiotic. Again, thanks for your help with this.

The timing probably doesn't matter much. S. Boulardi is usually labeled for twice-daily use, so just take them about twelve hours apart, at a time that's convenient.

S. boulardi is a yeast and not affected by typical antibiotics, so the timing does not matter too much.
