My J Pouch surgery was April 8, 2015.  Recently my surgeon suggested I take 2 tablespoons of psyllium in 8 oz. of water 2x per day, since I go to the bathroom so much.  He didn't mention Imodium, which he suggested taking 15 minutes before meals right after my surgery.  What are the best times to take it?  Can I keep taking my Imodium 15 minutes before meals and before bedtime?  I've been taking my husband's psyllium capsules(serving size is 5 capsules) until I go to the health food store to get the powder.  Can anyone give me a psyllium/Imodium schedule that works for them?  Thank you.

I take one labeled dose (measured per the label) of psyllium after breakfast and before dinner. It's served me well for 13 years. I recently switched from all Metamucil to half Metamucil/half Konsyl, to reduce the sugar involved (I don't like artificial sweeteners).

I used to take more Lomotil years ago, but now I just take one at bedtime unless I'll be away from a bathroom for several hours (e.g. on a boat). Lomotil slows the gut, like Imodium.

I am a bit over the average for metamucil (although I use pysillium husks as I hate the sweet taste of Metamucil). I take a very large teaspoon -more like a tablespoon- four time per day. At your stage I took Imodium at 3 pm and at bedtime as evening was more active but I don't often take any now. Hope all of this input helps...trial and error, error and trial.
