I have had a J-pouch for 5 years with great success. On 12/13/2012 my bladder was removed due to cancer and I now have a urostomy. I am recovering at home and have run into digestive problems. Specifically I am now on day two of not going to the bathroom. The problem seems to be prior to the pouch since there is very little in there. I am getting urges and cramps but no luck. I've taken Dulcolax on doctors orders with no results. I am seeing the doctor later today but wondered if anyone has come across similar problems, how you fixed it, and once fixed how did you avoid it coming back.

All suggestions are welcome.

Hi Pouch,
Just a quick comment...most J pouchers dehydrate more quicker and more often that most non-pouchers...could it be possible that with the urostomy you are dehydrating even more and 'drying out' your pouch...thus the little that is in there is not hydrated enough (liquid enough?) to move???
Just a thought...sometimes you might need to drink more fluids to get things moving?
Not sure if this is logical or not but it might work...I know that when my pouch is over dry my system slows down dramatically.

Good luck! Where do you go for treatment? I have had all my surgeries at Miriam Hospital in Rhode Island. I am 8 months from takedown and still struggling with my j pouch. They did a prometheus test (blood work) and the markers came back with Crohn's disease. GI and surgeon are not 100% convinced that is what I have. I am still not any better and not sure if it is because I am only 8 months out. Still struggling!
