I am wondering if some people do any type of preparation if they know they will be having alcohol or going out to drink. I always make myself nervous because alcohol runs through me very quickly and sometimes bathrooms aren't the cleanest at bars. Even if I am at a friends house, I hate running to the bathroom all the time.

The only preperation I make is to be sure I have gone to the bathroom once after eating and I will preemptively take 2 immodiums and a heaping teaspoon of metamucil.

I also try not to have meal when drinking. A little snacking holds me over. Water is a good idea but I usually chug that after Im done drinking.

If you're going to be out all day, carry some extra immodium/metamucil wafers/baby wipes with you. I also tend to stick with hard liquor (vodka cranberry or the like) and a beer here and there.
I'm seven months post op and have tried to have a few drinks a couple of times. I use to be able to handle a night of drinking, not anymore!

What I found works for me is cranberry and vodka. One or two and I'm pretty buzzed. I DO dri k water whole out having these drinks... No food!

Any other drinks and I'm in bed with a severe headache and water faucet diahrea and dehydrated. Gatorade when I go to bed.
I used to pop a couple Imodium with my first drink, but then I realized I didn't really need to. Plus, the Imodium gave me the tolerance of a frickin' bull (six rum drinks at 140 lbs and only a light buzz). Fortunately, alcohol doesn't seem to have a negative affect on my j-pouch. I can drink whatever I want and am just fine. Just watch out for dehydration.
