Hi everyone. I am currently 10.5 weeks pregnant with my first child. My largest fear in having all of the surgeries was that I would have difficulty getting pregnant, but we were blessed by literally getting pregnant without even trying.

I was diagnosed with Crohn's a year or so after my last surgery (main symptom is horrible joint pain, luckily no major intestinal issues) and I'm on Humira, which has worked pretty well. When I found out I was pregnant I stopped the 6MP and the Celebrex. I'm trying not to be nervous about the Humira, but my doctor (and all of the research I've read) says it's safe and far better for me to not have any active inflammation.

Anyway…here is my question. I find myself really struggling with anxiety after I eat and late at night when I get cramping. I get nervous that I can't differentiate between normal IBD cramping and cramping that is a sign of something being wrong with the pregnancy. I try to keep myself calm with deep breathing and positive thoughts, but I find myself constantly checking to see if I'm bleeding. Has anyone else dealt with this?Would really love any advice from anyone who has gone through this. Thank you!!

I think all women (especially with their first pregnancy) will go through this. Any time you feel a twinge or a new pain or a discomfort, it's going to freak you out a little bit. I was constantly worried with my first, and I'd pull out my doppler to check the baby's heartbeat every few days until she started kicking. It's a nervewracking time until 16-22 weeks when you can start to really feel the baby move. It will give you reassurance, trust me! I know you still have a few weeks, but try to be calm about it. Once your baby has a heartbeat, the chances of something going wrong are very small. Don't read the scary stories, because they will only do that, make you scared. I had cramping so bad for an entire week when I was about 12 weeks, I was in the doctor's office every day getting checked out. Turned out it was just trapped gas. It was excruciating pain for me at times, but my little baby never noticed it and was doing just fine :-) For my own personal nerves, I loved having the doppler at home. You can buy them for pretty cheap. It eased my fears 100% every time. Some people don't recommend them though, because it can do the opposite, and put you in panic when you can't hear the heartbeat. Which is totally normal if the baby is sitting farther back especially this early on in the pregnancy. You'll get through it!

Hi,

I just delivered a healthy baby girl on 10/23 just 10 months after my takedown. I opted to have a c section to not stress my pouch w pushing and labor. I had two pregnancies pre-pouch and can definitely say the cramping you would want to worry about would feel like terrible period cramps not like the cramping we get with our pouches. I had a pretty uneventful pregnancy and recovered from the c section rapidly. Talk w your doctor about what symptoms you should keep an eye on and I am sure you will do great. Congrats and good luck!
