Hi everyone. I've had a well functioning j-pouch since Dec. 2008. I'm now 13 weeks pregnant and have been experiencing pain and pressure in my pouch anytime I have a bowel movement and then for a few minutes afterwards. I also feel discomfort when I change positions when laying down or go from sitting to standing up. Was just wondering if other women have gone through this or something similar when they were in 1st or 2nd trimester and whether or not they went to see GI doc about the issue? I would REALLY appreciate any feedback!! Thank u!!

In my second trimester I had a lot of lower pelvic pain that was related to pouch as a while after I emptied it felt a bit better. Now in the third trimester (33 weeks) its not as bad. I told my high risk OB every time and he said it sounded like the jpouch. I was also struggling to control the pouchitis at the time. It doesn't hurt as much now. Maybe it could also be round ligament pain? Look that up and see if it makes sense. Good luck!

Hi Naomi,
Congrats on your pregnancy! It is a very exciting time and I hope the pain doesn't diminish this for you. As for the pain, I experienced pain in both my pregnancies. With my first, my GI thought I may have pouchitis and I was treated for it. It was very close to the end, so I'm not sure it that was really the cause, but being treated for something put my mind at ease.

My second baby caused a ton of pain, mostly what I felt was just general pouch pain, but again, not until I was a further than you are. I now realize it was most definitely from adhesions, which were being stretched and torn as my son grew. This may also be the case for you. I had c-sections with both my boys, and during the second I asked the doctor if there was scar tissue. She said, yes, there definitely was and this could have been causing my misery (not to get too graphic, but she said my small bowel was adhered to the back of my uterus by scar tissue).

Hang in there. If you don't exhibit any other symptoms, such as fever, extra bathroom trips, etc. I would say it is simply growing pains.

Best of luck!

Glad you are getting some reliefé I am in a similar situation and my GI just told me I have a fissure and predcribed Cortifoam. Am a bit relunctant to take it since I am in my first trimester. What did your doc precribe? What cream? Medical pads?
Also - silly question...but a is a sitzs bath the insert you place on the toilet seat (filled with warm water or something else added?). I somehow managed 5 years with a pouch not knowing really what is it or where to get one!
