im pre takedown and every week or so my anus gets annoyingly active and it gets tough to pass the mucus from my anus. almost like the anal tissue closes up and wont let it through then at some point it empties fairly easy. is this normal? also ive always had this swollen bump/tissue inside my anus that would act up once twice a year before surgery but now its tiny but there almost always. not sure if its a hemmoroid or what but i fear it will be a pain in the ass when i start using new j-pouch. i may be over thinking it cause it wasnt much of a bother with colitis flairs. im just so nervous about the takedown and unknown...

jpouch surgery is terrible do not do it,it creates more problems than it solves
Ignore Pauln. He's having issues with his pouch and apparently has taken it upon himself to troll the board 'warning' people about having the surgeries. I had my stage one done almost 20 years ago now. Although it hasn't always been perfect, for the most part it has allowed me to lead a normal life through most of it.
You should talk to your doctor about what you describe but I remember similar sensations. I remember saying to my surgeon 'are you sure it doesn't seal up down there like an earring hole?' he assured me it didn't. I didn't have a problem after take down. You should still talk with your doctor about it to make sure.

i figured it out. i started taking 5 htp for post surgical depression and it immediately messed me up. last night the mucus was actually pink after a month of no blood. just read side effects for 5 htp were bleeding and gastro probs. im done with that and going back to comfy. i listen to everyones concerns bad or good but focus on the positive. i personally know people who love their j-pouch and so far i love mine. im just a positive thinker and i know that gives more positive results at least for me. the post surgical depression is a puzzle that i will eventually solve but advice is welcome. i wont do prescription anti depressant because im very sensitive and had bad reactions to those as well...

im starting to realize a trend with or without the meds and supplements i was blaming. every 5 to 7 days it becomes difficult to pass mucus like my butt swells a bit when i try and twice the mucus was pinkish. is this normal 5 weeks after j-pouch creation? i wasnt worried about the swelling now and then just figuring its part of the tissue healing process but the pink mucus suggest still a ting of blood that i havent seen since maybe a week after j-pouch creation. i usually avoid sugar except one banana a day but did have a moderate amount of sugary foods a day or so before this last episode so that could be a big factor as well. any thoughts advice or experience are welcome.
The pink mucus is normal and is a sign of healthy tissue. It comes and it goes and is nothing to worry about.

it seems more like it could be a ting of blood mixed in from my anus swelling. i really think sugar messes me up. i get a butterfly rash on my nose and cheeks from eating it too. one more question sue. i have a call into my surgeon but i change my bag every wednesday and there always seems to be a bit of red blood sitting on the top side of my stoma. i gently dab it away, clean and reapply bag then its there again next change. its not actively bleeding and i dont see any in the bag but its worrisome to me. today i put some stoma powder on that area. i just want this bag gone. when my surgeon calls im gonna ask her to bump me up to remove at the 8 week point instead of 12. any thoughts?
The blood you see at your stoma is probably from irritation and nothing to worry about. It seems as if you have a lot of anxiety. Are there any jpouchers in your area that you could meet with face to face? It might help to console you and let you know that you are okay.

having you to talk to is very helpful and reassuring. we here in florida without anyone for support. my folks came but wiil eventually have to go home and my amazing wife has to work so ill be alone which is not good. were moving home after takedown and that task is overwhelming me. im usually very strong minded but this disease and surgery did a number on me. left our friends and family to try and live with uc in milder climate but ended up in emergency surgery so now its time to be back with our loves now that ill hopefully be cured. i just want to be home now so badly...
Can you not move home and have your reversal surgery done there? It's a fairly simple surgery compared with the first surgery, I assume you are having a 2-step.

it will be a 3 step and takedown is oct 12 at the 12 week mark. hoping she might agree and move me up cause well have no insurance back home for a bit. if i panic and leave i blow my goal, my prize. the takedown all these posts of pouchitis etc has got me anxious as hell too. i need to stop all this nonsense and im trying so hard...
Maybe you should stop reading the board? Remember, most people that post here are having problems, the vast majority of us are out living life. Try to set your mind to doing things that bring you joy.

you are like me! i was scared before the surgery and i am still scared after the surgery because of too much forum-reading!! it won't help you in your recovery if you read up on it TOO much! you will become a basketcase like me and worry incessantly. just let your body rest and do its magic, keep talking to your docs, and think of nice things to do in your recovery - good movies, walking in the park, napping (my favorite)!!!!
Suebear is dead on with her advice. Also if you still feel like you have a blockage ask your doctor about it. Maybe they will take a look or order a ct scan.

im not concerned about a blockage. my stoma is always on schedule

still getting that occasional pressure when i pass mucus. feels like occasionally it swells up bu then next time it flows out easily. anyone else ever have this. advise is welcome...
I don't have any advice on this issue, but did notice our take-down surgeries are one day apart from one another...mine is on 10/11. I'm nervous, too, but overall believe I will fall into the majority that in the long run is very happy with the results. I bet you will, too. Besides the support we can find here, we can support one another. Be well!

thanks very much. are you saying you dont pass mucus or you do but its always easy? this has me a little creeped out now. i was hoping to hear someone chime in and say its normal for it to be difficult to pass mucus on occasion before takedown...
I haven't passed mucus in a while, probably a couple of weeks, but when I have it passed easily. I'll be 14 weeks post second surgery tomorrow. I wish I could be of more help. Please keep us posted. Wishing you well.
