Hi there! I am new to this site, but have been referring to discussion board topics often. I have had so many complications, hospital stays and such. I am in kind of a rut. In December, I had my first encounter with pouchitis. I was put on a combination of flagyl and cipro for a week, but could not handle the two antibiotics combined. They literally knocked me out for the week. I could not stay awake let alone function on both so my surgeon dropped me down to taking cipro. Since then, I am on my third round of cipro. Each time the infection returns, I experience the same symptoms, but worse. This time there is worse bleeding and severe discomfort in that area. It really hurts to have any sort of bowel movement. To push anything out is painful. I have been going to the bathroom more frequently and have been losing sleep because of this. My stool has been very runny and laced with blood. My bottom is very irritated from going to the bathroom so much. I have also been experiencing the usual sour stomach, bloating, & gas that comes with the infection. My surgeon put me back on cipro, but he has referred me to another GI specialist. He does not seem to have any other answers at this point. I am wondering if anyone can help until I see the specialist?

Also, with the infection and cipro, I feel flu-ish, weak, and sluggish. Is this normal?

Any advice or reassurances would be appreciated! Thanks!

Gee, Cipro is sort of notorious for causing C. difficile infections, so I sort of cringe when I hear of folks being put on repeated cycles of it, especially with worsening symptoms and bleeding. Please ask about C. diff testing. Hopefully, this is just cuffitis and you are just on the wrong medication.

Good luck with the new GI!
