Is it possible to have both? I have mild pouchitis on scope. Diareah, bloodily mucus, etc. Been a year on xifaxan. Change to augmentum for 10 days, pentassa, and Entergam. Now I have form stool, no D. 3 days off augmentum and today this awful gas, sick feeling, etc but still no D and formed stools. Could the pentassa and Entergam take care of the pouchitis but I need the antibiotic for small bowl? I give up!

I have found in the past that rotating onto xifaxin helped me conquer yeast infections for the simple reason that xifaxin stays in the gut and is not systemically absorbed.  The other antibiotics that are systemically absorbed over time will kill enough bacteria in other parts of your body that the yeast will opportunistically overpopulate in those areas formerly occupied by bacteria.  Taking xifaxin allows the bacteria count to recover outside of your gut. I primarily got bad yeast infections on my skin (legpits and armpits), and learned to keep them at bay by rotating onto xifaxin, using very good drying hygiene after showers, and liberally applying antifungal powder on any area that started itching or looking red.  This protocol has eliminated recurrence of yeast infections in the past few years.  I did get a really bad one in 2010 and again in 2011 and diflucan was necessary to knock them out.  But none since then while using the above protocol, which is really just common sense.
