I'm not sure what location you're at; however, I've had both as well.  I am in the San Diego County area and there's a wonderful colorectal surgeon/doctor by the name of Sonia Ramamoorthy who really helped me during this time.  I was on ciprofloxacin and had to switch to another medicine as I had become immune to the benefits of ciprofloxacin from being on it for too long.  Long hot baths  every day helped and I did have the "string" method which seemed to help some.  Fistulas take time and are so frustrating. . . I was advised to start Remicaide Infusion and initially fought it.  In 2013 I began the Remicaide Infusion and it changed my life.  I (knock on wood here) don't have problems with fistulas since infusion treatment and I really changed me diet and stress level.  Dr. Ramamoorthy works out of Thornton Hospital in La Jolla, CA and it's sister hospital in San Diego, CA.  Google her name for recent contact info please as I have not needed to see her since 2013 for these issues.  Now I see my Gastroenterologist who monitors my health.  It will be 10 years next year since I've had my j-pouch and I have never considered reversing it.  I am curious as to how long my j-pouch will last though . . . good luck!

Thank you for the reply and I wish you all the best in the future,
unfortunately,  I'm from Palestine,  the middle east too far!..   I have some questions,
what is your alternative for.ciprofloxacin and how long you was taking ciprofloxacin until it stopped working?
Do you mean by the string method the seton? And if yes, is it risky or has side effects?
What do you mean by the long hot bath!!?
I took remicade before to treat pouchitis before fistula appeared, but is doesn't help, is it useful to take it again?
Is there any risks or complications for the fistula in the future? I have them from about 6 months?
Thank you very much
H

Hi, my alternative drug is moxifloxican 400 ml. - this replaced the cipro.  My body became immune to cipro.  I had many difficulties but am much better today.  Hot baths help the fistula to heal - don't ask me why - don't know the particulars but it works.  I have not had a fistula (knock on wood) in 4 years or so.  The Remicaide is of tremendous help to my body.  I used to take 80 plus supplements a day, my antibiotic and canasa.  Now I take my antibiotic, canasa and a supplement for my eyes (the pregnisone messed my eyes up).  I've had multiple surgeries but am doing very well today.  Less stress in one's life is key when you have an autoimmune disease like Crohns or UC, etc.   Prayer helps as well.  I'm sorry you're having so many problems.
